Pickathon Music Festival ~ Pendarvis Farm Oregon ~ 2013
The Worlds Largest Annually Installed Tension Structure in the World
GuildWorks has been with this amazing festival going on 9 years now and we are thrilled to take on the wonderful role of helping transform Pickathon Music Festival into the amazing music festival that it is today. This is a music festival GuildWorks is heavily invested in. As we bring new additions to this 3 day music experience, we transforms and enhance the over all feel of this incredible festival.
While we design and build many different concert stages and shade canopies for different music events, one stands out! PICKATHON!!! This is a much anticipated event because it absorbs so much of our energy and dedication throughout the year. As you can imagine, considering the fact that Pickathon features the largest tension Annually Installed Tension Structure in the World to date represented by 260,000 sq. feet of fabric, 10 miles of rope and line, over 1000' of stage truss, and a crew that works practically around the clock for months to design, fabricate, dye, build, and install our most magnificent work of art. The onsite installation takes 3 full weeks by the very tentative and skilled, GuildWorks' "Sky Crew" which manages the entire installation. Currently known as they worlds largest annually installed tension structures setup annually that we are aware of.

The large multi-panel tension fabric structures is the architecture that defines the Pickathon experience and branding. Pickathon is an annual indi / roots music Festival outside of Portland OR and we have been engaged with designing and building the site since 2005. We worked with the client before they ever had the festival on the current grounds at Pendarvis Farm, an 80 acre farm in Happy Vally,OR. The current site design was largely influenced by our company, with years of development working with the festival through it's largest growth years thus far. The Visually dynamic, combined shade and rain structures were developed and changed to meet the growing functional needs of the site while maintaining a pure artistic and architectural look and feel.
The structure is erected using over 1500 liner feet of stage trussing as upright mast structures which are guyed down to screw in ground anchors which have now been permanently installed on site. Once the mast structure is in place and stable the set up of the fabrics begins in layers from highest above ground to lowest. Overlapping structures to provide full shade to areas below while they stay in manageable sizes. The Main field structure has a span of over 550 feet by 500 feet with a mixture of shade rain and open space, while other spaces at the festival we cover with structures of up to 150 x 100 feet. This last year new welded rain cover fabrics were built for over the stage upgrading the amount of weather coverage for the event. Below and behind the shade and rain protection a whole series of fabric structures can be seen serving as everything from; a giant backdrop mimicing Mt Hood which you see over it in the background, to walls dividing backstage dressing rooms , interview spaces, and band merchandising. Everything on the site has been approached with an artostic flair and the fabric architecture we provide gives you a great visual experience from the moment you approach the front gate fabric-bamboo structure. Over all our company designs builds and installs over 250,000 sq.ft. of fabric for this annual event. We are truly blessed and grateful to have been a part of Pickathon over these last 8 years!
