PICkathon INDIE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2013 ~ PENDARVIS FARM
The Worlds Largest Annually Installed Tension Structure in the World
GuildWorks has been installing Architecture of the Air at Pickathon, the amazing Indie / Roots music festival, since 2005. In 2006, we worked closely with festival organizers and helped determine the festival’s new (and current) location at the beautiful Pendarvis Farm just outside of Portland in Happy Valley, Oregon. We are thrilled to have taken on the wonderful role of helping transform the Pickathon Music Festival into what it is today. GuildWorks is heavily invested in this dynamic event, as we consistently bring additions and expanded offerings to this 3 day music experience that transforms and enhances the overall feel of this incredible festival. This site takes fully four weeks to install and breakdown. GuildWorks' "Sky Crew" manages the entire installation of over 250,000 square feet of fabric suspended by over 10 miles of line!
The event is held annually in the beginning of August. Pendarvis Farm, the beautiful 80-acre farm in Happy Valley, OR, allows camping on site! For ticket information and this year’s schedule visit Pickathon.com.

Our large multi-panel tension fabric structures form the architecture that defines the Pickathon Music Festival’s visual style. It dramatically improves the experience of attendees, providing shade in the heat of August and an inspiring visual environment of patterned geometries. We created a unique tension structure specific to the space at Pendarvis Farm. The current overall festival site design has been largely influenced by GuildWorks, with years of development working with the festival through its largest growth years thus far. The visually dynamic, combined shade and rain structures have been developed and changed to meet the growing functional needs of the site while maintaining a pure artistic and architectural look and feel.
The structure is erected using over 1000 linear feet of stage trussing as upright masts guyed down to screw-in ground anchors, which have now been permanently installed on site. Once the mast structure is in place and stable, the setup of the fabrics begins in layers from highest above ground to lowest. Overlapping structures provide full shade to areas below while they stay in manageable sizes. The main field structure has a span of over 550 feet by 350 feet with a mixture of shade rain cover and open space, while other spaces at the festival we cover with structures of up to 120 x 70 feet. For 2012, we built new welded rain cover fabrics over the main stage, upgrading the level of weather coverage for the event. Below and behind the shade and rain protection, a whole series of fabric structures can be seen. They serve as everything from a giant visual backdrop mimicking Mt. Hood (which you see over it in the background), to walls dividing backstage dressing rooms, interview spaces, and band merchandising. Everything on the site has been approached with an artistic flair and the fabric architecture we provide provides a great visual experience from the moment you approach the front gate fabric-bamboo structure. Overall, GuildWorks designs, builds and installs over 250,000 sq.ft. of fabric for this annual event. We are truly blessed and grateful to have been a part of Pickathon since 2005 and look forward to what's to come.
We highly encourage you to come out and attend this festival with us. It's always a great time for the whole family!
