Festival Installation Intern
This role is a unique opportunity for persons looking to gain knowledge and experience in the installation of event structures. This role is for a capable individual- a maker, builder, do-er to get experience and learn new skills. Ability to learn quickly and under pressure is necessary. The Festival Installation Intern will be required to work under a range of environmental conditions, and installation shifts may last up to 12 hours. As festivals take place in rural areas, crews sleep on site during the installations. The persons who fill this role must have, and be comfortable with, living from their tents for periods of time. All meals will be provided. This is a variable opportunity in which several compensation packages exist based on experience. They range from festival ticket trade with perks to small financial honorariums. Most importantly- this is a chance to gain experience, knowledge and skills and take part in building something amazing. Learning Opportunities:
• Will learn processes of various installations
• Basics of rigging for tension structure installations
• Various knots and applications for knots
• Use and management of fabrics
• Working closely within a team environment
• Introduction to heavy machinery use (ex: boom and scissor lifts)
• Job Safety training
Job Responsibilities:
• Must be able to consistently show up, and be prepared for work days
• Must be able to follow directives, and reiterate/ask for clarification when needed
• Must be hard working but calm in mind and practice
• Able to learn and understand workflows, identify possible bottlenecks & communicate proactively
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
• Physically able to bend, push, reach, stand, stoop, turn, walk, climb
• Read/See with a focus on reading directions/maps and distinguishing colors, exceptional depth perception, peripheral vision awareness
• Able to work outdoors, and in adverse weather conditions
• Comfortable working at heights up to 100’
• Able to lift up to 50lbs
• Able to work into the night, or overnight if under crunch/if needed
• Mechanically and technically apt
• Comfortable with receiving/executing precise directives in both calm and challenging work scenarios
• Self driven with the desire to follow through and achieve completion on every task
• Willing to take direct, open and responsive constructive criticism with a desire to improve skills
